At Bath & Tile Outlet, we want your renovation process to be as smooth as possible. Because we deal with premium, large-scale fixtures like fully assembled vanities and freestanding bathtubs, accurate measurements are crucial before you place an order.

Use this guide to help you and your contractor measure your space correctly. Remember: Always measure twice to renovate once!

1. Measuring for Bathroom Vanities Our premium vanities come in various sizes, and many are fully assembled. Before purchasing, please ensure you measure:

  • Width: Measure the total available wall space. Ensure there is enough clearance so the vanity doors and drawers can open fully without hitting the toilet, shower, or adjacent walls.
  • Depth: Measure from the wall outward. Make sure the vanity depth won't disrupt the flow of traffic in your bathroom.
  • Height: Standard vanity height is typically around 32" to 36". If you are opting for a modern floating vanity, discuss the installation height and required wall reinforcements with your contractor.
  • Plumbing Location: Check where your existing pipes are located to ensure they align with the vanity’s open back or plumbing cutouts.

2. Measuring for Freestanding Bathtubs A freestanding tub is a stunning centerpiece, but it requires careful planning:

  • Floor Space: Measure the footprint of the area where the tub will sit. Leave enough space around the tub (ideally 4 to 6 inches on all sides) for cleaning and visual appeal.
  • Doorways and Hallways: This is critical! Measure all doorways, hallways, and stairwells along the delivery path to ensure the tub can physically be brought into the bathroom.
  • Drain Location: Check if your floor drain aligns with the tub's center, reversible, or end drain setup.

3. Measuring for Shower Doors For custom or pre-made glass shower enclosures (like our premium Fleurco options):

  • Wait until your shower base and wall tiles are completely installed before taking the final measurements. Tiles and thin-set mortar will change the exact width of the opening.
  • Measure the width at three points: the bottom, the middle, and the top of the opening. Use the smallest measurement when selecting your door.
  • Check if your walls are perfectly plumb (straight/level).

4. Check Your Delivery Path Don't forget to measure the path from your front door to the bathroom! Ensure that large items like double vanities or bathtubs will fit through your front door, navigate any tight corners, and clear staircase ceilings.
